Elma-Mektron achieved BS EN ISO 9001:1994 registration through the British Standards Institute on 3rd June 1998. The scope of registration is "The design and manufacture of turnkey enclosure systems".

Subsequently Elma-Mektron has successfully achieved the transition to the 2000 version of the standard, BS EN ISO 9001:2000, this was completed in December 2003.

Elma-Mektron’s quality system consists of the following salient sections that are specifically significant in enabling the company to deliver our customer’s requirements: -

Quality Policy Manual
The Policy Manual describes the framework of the quality system and contains the Quality Policy Statement.

Process Flowcharts & Operating Procedures
The process flowcharts and operating procedures describe the detailed workings of the quality system and cover specific processes.

Operating Forms
This section covers the various forms and documents that are required for daily operations.

Workmanship Standards
The workmanship standards are a proprietary set of documents that covers the assembly of the company’s enclosure systems. These documents are supplemented by the IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for electronic assemblies and wire harness assemblies.

Due to the project-based nature of the business within which Elma-Mektron operates, much emphasis has been placed on developing the quality system such that there is greater control of the customer interface. Experience has shown that the tracking and capturing of changes and dependencies with respect to a project is a key factor in the successful and timely delivery of a project.

A bespoke management system has been developed to manage changes to designs and projects:

Design Specification
This module captures the prime specifications of a product around which the design activity will revolve. The processes employed include the creation of a technical manual for each project and ensuring compliance to the specification is reviewed and integrated as the design is developed. In addition the supporting review, inspection and test activities enable the validation of the design to meet the specification.

Project Plan
The Project Plan module defines the critical milestones and reviews associated with each project, the resources assigned to the critical milestones and raises alarms related to issues that may affect the timely delivery of the overall project or each milestone. This module provides instant high focus and high visibility of the major elements of each project and thus ensures the project timescales do not become destabilised.

Project Management
This module captures all other issues not related to the critical milestones. It ensures that all peripheral activities related to the key stages of a project are monitored and progressed such that they do not affect the critical milestones.

Contract Control
The Contract Control facility provides a mechanism by which changes to the specifications, order etc. are captured, documented and reflected in the delivered product. Design changes to a product and subsequent engineering changes are driven through this process either pre- or post-design release.

Material Pre-Order
To reduce lead-time for delivery of a product, material is often defined and ordered before the product design phase is underway and hence a product Bill of Material is unavailable. This module tracks material that has been ordered for a given design and ensures that each piece part is tracked and allocated for a given project.

Risk Register
The Risk Register will identify any risks associated with a project and quantify probability of impact of each risk in terms of cost, delivery, specification etc. The register establishes fallback plan and also evaluates a secondary plan with associated risks.

Customer Focus
This element is dedicated to establishing an effective customer interface, especially providing the resources need to deal with issues relating to the product or services provided by Elma-Mektron. This includes a module for capturing and monitoring any complaints made by the Customer. Each complaint is investigated not only to provide corrective action but also to investigate and enable the root causes associated with the problem to be identified, and corrective action initiated.

Material Non Conformances
Supplier rejected material is dealt with by this module with the ability to generate quality performance data on received parts.

RMA System
All field returns are tracked via this module and data is generated for field failures, design upgrades etc.

Subcontract Management
The tracking of free issue kits to sub-tier suppliers is carried out via this module with full status on material shortages and delivery performance.

Supplier Approval and Management
The supplier management and approval process is carried out by this module. Suppliers are evaluated based on a three-tier system.
