| Elma-Mektron’s vast system
enclosure and hardware integration experience
coupled with
an extensive involvement in major international
programmes has
required the company to perform exacting EMC integrity testing.
Importantly, the wealth of test history available
represents
fully hardware / software configured solutions and is therefore
truly representative and hence far more meaningful
than just
“screening effectiveness” figures, as typically
quoted. |

Accordingly, every Elma-Mektron solution is designed from day one in
accordance with proven good EMC practice. For example Elma-Mektron has
world-wide patent protection for its innovative ‘Crush-Fold’
technology, a process that provides a cost effective, high strength, superior
EMC seal with minimal fastener count. The ‘Crush-Fold’ is now
incorporated in many of Elma-Mektron’s commercial and military grade enclosures
supplied to customers who demand the highest standards of EMI shielding.
Elma-Mektron has it’s own high investment pre-compliance EMC test
facility which is backed up by a very experienced consultancy service
assuring a pro-active and constructive approach to EMC conformity. For
final product testing Elma-Mektron works with a number of NAMAS accredited
test houses and operates an ‘open-book’ policy with regards
to commercial matters in this respect. These accredited test houses are
completely independent and are able to provide clear and unequivocal
advice on all aspects of testing and certification.
Elma-Mektron works to the following standards:
Commercial: EN55022, VDE Class A & B
Military: MIL-STD 461, DEF-STD 59-41, NES 1027, BS 3G100
Tempest: LAND CLASS A & B
Some of the key issues regularly being addressed include those to do
with noisy EMC sources from third party cards, issues to do with screening
of power and I/O wiring, and the separation or isolation of noisy assemblies
within the chassis to minimise radiated emissions.
Elma-Mektron has used their pre-compliance test facility to allow customers
to integrate their card set into their enclosure and obtain test results
that permit a high degree of confidence that the final product will pass
the formal NAMAS testing. This procedure has also allowed chassis or
card
set modification to take place prior to formal testing in “Real
Time”, thus minimising customer expense.
